The requirement
Williams Shipping needed a dependable partner to manage the servicing, inspection and replacement of fire and lifesaving equipment across a busy commercial fleet. With vessels operating from locations including Southampton and Pembroke, servicing arrangements also needed to remain flexible around changing vessel movements and operational commitments.
The solution
Williams Shipping was one of the first UK workboat operators to adopt Marine Fire Safety’s Workboat 1.2.3 agreement following its launch in 2022.
The three-year agreement brings the management of fire and lifesaving equipment under one service arrangement, including annual servicing, equipment renewals, certification and reminders for upcoming expiry dates. It covers equipment such as fixed fire suppression systems, portable extinguishers, liferafts and pyrotechnics.
The agreement can also be adapted as vessels, equipment and operating requirements change. This has allowed the newly built Willdiscover to be incorporated into the ongoing support provided by Marine Fire Safety.
A flexible working relationship
Over the past four years, Marine Fire Safety has worked closely with Williams Shipping to respond to urgent requirements and arrange servicing around vessel availability.
This flexibility is particularly important in the commercial marine sector, where vessel movements and changing work schedules can make fixed servicing dates difficult. From answering technical questions to rearranging engineer visits, the focus has been on providing practical and dependable support.
The outcome
The renewed agreements give Williams Shipping a coordinated approach to managing essential fire and lifesaving equipment across its fleet.
The arrangement provides greater visibility of servicing and expiry dates, electronic access to certification and the reassurance of working with a single specialist supplier that understands the demands of commercial vessel operations.
